Macellaio RC, derived from the owner’s name Roberto Costa, is nestled at 38-40A Exmouth Market, London. It’s pink hues and enticing entrance featuring a “Tuna” and “Butchery” capture the essence of its meaty delights prepared with Italian flair.
The exterior of Macellaio RC showcases a tantalizing display of Tuna, setting the stage for a remarkable dining experience. The thoughtfully crafted menu is a testament to their dedication, offering a concise selection divided into meat and non-meat sections, with a focus on Tuna. This intentional approach allows the restaurant to excel in delivering its specialties.
Macellaio Menu
As I perused the menu, my attention was immediately drawn to the Steak Tartare and Tuna as starters, perfectly complemented by the T-Bone steak and Tagliata Nuda. To end the meal on a high note, a delightful assortment of four cheesecakes awaited me, leaving me breathless. The knowledgeable staff recommended the Vald’aosta wine aged in oak barrels, which flawlessly accompanied the savory feast.
Wine
The wine selection at Macellaio RC proved to be an excellent match for the tender and flavorful meats. The Vald’aosta, aged in oak barrels, added a delightful dimension to the dishes, seamlessly blending with their flavors.
Steak Tartare
The Steak Tartare, a harmonious blend of carefully selected ingredients, offered a delectable starter. Each element played a purposeful role, resulting in a culinary masterpiece. The high-quality, expertly butchered meat elevated this dish to the pinnacle of perfection.
Tuna Fish
While the Tuna was of commendable quality, it didn’t quite reach the level of savory goodness I had anticipated, perhaps due to my previous experience with Tuna in Sicily.
Tagliata steak
A unique offering at Macellaio RC is their “naked” meat concept, seasoned only with a pinch of salt. Surprisingly, I found myself enjoying this minimalist approach, as the flavors surpassed my expectations. The tender, melt-in-your-mouth texture of the meat further enhanced the dining experience. I would rate this concept a commendable 7/10.
The T-Bone Steak, a legendary dish, needs no introduction. From its tantalizing aroma to its exceptional taste, every aspect of this culinary masterpiece was superb. The flavors were heightened by the expertly placed salt, while the meat itself was cooked to perfection, rendering it utterly delicious. I would confidently give it a rating of 9/10.For dessert, I savored three different delights. The Philadelphia Cheesecake, with its velvety texture and generous layer of cheese, paired exquisitely with the homemade jam, earning a solid 7/10 rating. The Dolce Latte Fritto had a delightful filling, but its heavy frying detracted from the overall experience, resulting in a rating of 5.5/10. The Fried Pavesini con Nutella, though featuring a smaller amount of Nutella than desired, was still enjoyable, although slightly overcooked for my taste. I would give it a rating of 5/10.
Dessert
I had three different deserts, so I would start with the one I liked the most:
All this was offered by the Simone (the waiter) who I think of as Mr. Customer Service!!!
Philadelphia Cheesecake
The cheesecake was quite tender and soft and had a quite a thick layer of cheese that for me was paired perfectly with the homemade jam at the top and because of this, I rated it 7/10.
Dolce latte Fritto
The filling was good with the only thing that let it down was it being heavily fried from the outside and just because of this I have given it 5.5/10.
Fried Pavesini con Nutella
We all love Nutella, don’t we? Well, the bad thing was that they used too little of it inside and along with that, it was also a little but powerful for me since I believe it was overfired to my liking. This is why I will rate it 5/10.
Reciotto
The dessert selection was perfectly complemented by the Reciotto, a delightful drink that enhanced the flavors of the cheesecake, showcasing the restaurant’s mastery in pairing different elements.
Ambiance
Macellaio RC creates a captivating ambiance that seamlessly complements the delectable menu. Despite the Tuna hanging on one side and the bustling butchers on the other, the interior exudes a serene
Service
In a sense, this was one of the most pleasurable experiences that I have had in quite a while. It was not only the food that met my expectations but it was also the astounding service from the staff who were always on their toes to serve their customers to the full. I would not have counted my experience under the “Good Ones” heading unless a nice plate of food is assisted by a fabulous service. It was quite amazing to see all of the passions that each staff was putting in. From the minimalistic details to paramount niceties; they certainly took care of everything and provided a very attentive service!
What I paid
The bill that I received at the end showed an amount of 124.46 pounds and upon comparing to other big names and upon taking a look at the list of items that I had; I feel what they charged was very fair and economical. The house offered me an amazing drink that went well with the course did I had. As per the rates that prevail in the streets of London, I feel that this restaurant gives you a run for your money!
Overall
The overall experience was good. The best thing that I liked about this restaurant was the meat which obviously this restaurant is known for. Other than this, I believe they could turn their focus a little to their “Dessert Section” because if they are able to turn that around; the restaurant has the potential to offer a 360 experience to every fellow who enters its territory.
